Babich Family Estates Cowslip Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2011
This wine from our Cowslip Valley Vineyard in the Waihopai Valley is grown on a cool and sometimes frost prone site with moderately fertile silt soils overlying deep layers of free draining gravel. Good body and complex flavours on the palate are typical for Sauvignon Blanc grown on this superior site.

Select parcels of fruit from the Cowslip Valley Vineyard in the Waihopai Valley were obtained to craft this vineyard specific wine. After harvest the fruit was quickly crushed and fermented in stainless steel tanks at cool temperatures to retain aromatics particular to this unique site. The individual parcels were accessed, blended and lightly fined before bottling.

Pungent aromas of melon, lantana, slate and soft herbals make up the bouquet. The palate has an attractive linear entry, nicely concentrated, juicy lemon and lime, mineral flavours with herbals again chasing through. Lovely and fresh Sauvignon Blanc, with a delicious lingering quality.

Wine Writer Reviews
"Fruit from the ‘Cowslip Valley’ vineyard in the Waihopi Valley cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 13.6% alc. and 2.9 g/L rs.Brilliant pale straw colour with green hues, very even. On nose very fine and elegant showing gooseberry fruit with restrained pungent passionfruit and exotic tropical fruit aromas, along with herb and mineral notes, all tightly bound. Dry to taste, this is a fine featured wine with excellent raciness and liveliness providing tension through the palate. Subtle, luscious gooseberry and passionfruit flavours are interwoven with tropical fruits and minerals and the wine has good drive and length."
