BABICH MARLBOROUGH SAUVIGNON BLANC 2008
Overview:
A long and late ripening period of short sunny days and cold nights has enhanced the typically vibrant flavours of the Marlborough Region.
Grapes:
100% Sauvignon Blanc
Region:
Marlborough
Winemaker:
Adam Hazeldine
Recommended Food:
It works well with a white meat dish. Great with oysters or a green salad.
Recommended Cellaring:
Best enjoyed while young.
Production Notes:
After harvest the grapes were quickly crushed and pressed into stainless steel tanks where the juice was fermented at controlled cool temperatures to capture the intense varietal flavours. The wine was then blended and bottled.
Tasting Notes:
This wine displays lifted tropical fruits with notes of lantana and capsicum. There is a passionfruit entry on the palate coupled with citrus and wild cape gooseberry notes that linger, and are quite literally mouthwatering! This is a balanced wine, with a texture that will match well with food but is equally enjoyable on its own.

Reviews:
"Good now but definitely a wine for the future. This wine has herbaceous, green grass and slightly tropical aromas that pave the way for good fruit concentration and an elegant acidity. Quite opulent and with good persistency this wine should develop beautifully in the coming months."

"Dry, crisp Sauvignon Blanc with green and grassy flavours. Simple wine that's a good match with seafood, particularly if it's been garnished with lemon or lime juice."
- Bob Campbell, Oct 2008
"Joe Babich favours a fuller, riper, softer style of Sauvignon Blanc. It's not a jump out of the glass style, but the wines develop well. The latest releases reflect a rising input of grapes from the company's Cowslip Valley vineyard in the Waihopai Valley, which gives less herbaceous fruit characters than its other Marlborough vineyards. The 2008 vintage is aromatic, crisp, dry and zingy, with strong, ripe limey, slightly minerally flavours, showing good vibrancy, delicacy and punch."
