BABICH WINEMAKERS' RESERVE SAUVIGNON BLANC 2007
Overview:
Sauvignon Blanc from our Marlborough vineyards was blended to produce this rich and flavoursome wine.
Region:
Wairau, Awatere and Brancott Valleys, Marlborough
Winemaker:
Adam Hazeldine
Recommended Food:
Partner it with crumbed chicken breasts dabbed with mustard-cream sauce, or with baked salmon, smeared with salsa verde (puréed mint, parsley and capers).
Recommended Cellaring:
1-3 years
Production Notes:
The grapes were harvested in late April/ early May. The Awatere, Brancott and a majority of the Wairau juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks to capture the intense varietal character of the fruit. The balance of Wairau juice, (a small percentage of the total blend) was fermented in French oak puncheons to contribute weight and complexity. The wine was blended in August.
Tasting Notes:
A very lifted bouquet - passionfruit, broom, sweet tropical fruits and cut grass. On the palate the wine is a fine and complex weave of sweet fruits - passionfruit, citrus, spice and floral notes. Intense and focused yet lushly textured with an impressively long finish.
Awards:
SILVER MEDAL

"Concentrated wine in a classic Marlborough style with intense passionfruit, red capsicum, mineral/matchstick and lemon grass flavours. This wine looks very good indeed, particularly when tasted amongst a lineup of '08."
-Bob Campbell, Oct 2008
"Oak barrel toastiness mingles attractively with green bean, white flowers and capsicum notes. Elegantly structured, silky and generous. A style that would perform well with a bountiful bouillabaisse."

-Cuisine Magazine, Dec 2008
"A top example of gently wooded Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, with very ripe flavours and great drinkability. Grown in the Waihopai and Awatere valleys, it is mostly handled in tanks, but 10 per cent is fermented and lees-aged in old French oak barriques. The 2007 vintage is mouthfilling and dry, with ripe-fruit flavours of melon and lime, a touch of complexity and a crisp, lingering finish."
-Michael Cooper's Buyers Guide to New Zealand Wine 2009
"Mouthfilling and dry, with good depth of ripe, tropical fruit and gently herbaceous flavours, still fresh, crisp and lively."
-Winestate Magazine, March 2009
